No-exam life insurance

Which applicants qualify, what happens with accelerated underwriting, and how standard underwriting differs.

Many carriers use accelerated underwriting for applicants meeting age and amount criteria, deciding based on the application, prescription history, driving record and other data—no paramedical exam. Approval can happen the same day. Each quote displays whether an exam is required, possibly required, or not required.

What it changes

No exam does not mean no underwriting. Your responses are investigated. A policy issued on false information may be contested within the first two years. Additional data might trigger an exam or lab work request; you can decide whether to proceed at that moment.

Who tends to qualify

Usually applicants under age 60 with amounts within the carrier's accelerated threshold qualify if there is no significant health history and no tobacco use for a year or longer. Recent medical exams with lab results may substitute for a paramedical exam at some carriers.

Should you need an exam, expect a 20- to 30-minute visit by a paramedic at your home or office in the Torrance area at no charge. Healthy applicants may see their health class improve after exam results, making the exam potentially beneficial.
